The things we want to talk about...

Thoughts on the Government report that states that bosses should be allowed to dismiss lazy workers, by Alan Price, Employment Services Director.

26/10/2011

You may have read about the leaked Government Report [Beecroft Report] which states that lazy workers could lose their right to unfair dismissal rights.

The Beecroft report brings into sharp focus employment rights in the UK and what part they can play in boosting or dampening the economy. Employers need to be aware that proposals already on the table extend the qualification period required for unfair dismissal claims to two years from 2012. This will provide employers with in my view a far more reasonable period to decide if employees are capable. Scrapping unfair dismissal rules in favour of a fixed settlement or redundancy payment could further harm the economy if employees saw this as an opportunity to earn a lucrative exit from the business which may already be struggling and cant afford further recruitment and training costs but just wants the employee to improve. Employers should ensure they have sufficient HR policies and procedures in place, this will help you to ensure their business is protected should there be a risk of employment tribunal.

Ensure that your HP policies and procedures are in order, please call us at Peninsula for further advice or assistance.
